There are lots of thoughts on this...

One- that I find quite believable- is that it is simply being diagnosed more, remember when Ritalin was being hailed as a miracle drug and all of a sudden ADHD diagnoses skyrocketed? I am not implying a conspiracy here, what happened was the discovery of Ritalin gave people the idea that their kid's behavioral problems could be treated by a drug (instead of the parents actually acting like parents), and doctors were given a drug that claimed to tread behavioral problems- and so we saw news stories over the years that ADHD was skyrocketing in America.

30 years ago, many kids that would be diagnosed as AUTISTIC today, would have been labled 'developmentally disabled', or 'brain damaged'... The increased use of a label does is not the same as the increased rate of a disease.

One thing some of the loons claim as proof is that Autism has increased with immunization rates- this is an asinine argument; CORRELATION DOES NOT MEAN CAUSATION!!!!

Autism rates have also increased with the number of CD players in America, the speed of computers, the number of blonde news anchors, and the number of reported crop circles.... This does not indicate there is a causal relation.
