Don't get me wrong; this isn't a flame. Raoul is a great guy. He's smart, curious, and has a fascination with learning, but he also has a terminal case of nihilism. To him there's no point to life; no meaning to anything. Raoul wouldn't fight to defend anything, because he doesn't believe in anything. To him, his society, culture, and people are simply illusions with no substance.
The philosophy of no philosophy has permeated deep into the heart of Western Europe. This is why many of the current leaders let in millions of non European immigrants into their countries without the slightest regard of how it will affect their own culture and society. To them their own history, culture and heritage are irrelevant and meaningless. The dust bin of history is full of such Peoples.
