Have you considered the implications of your actions?
Do you think the human species is ready for such knowledge?
Of course a distant untranslatable signal might not be as disruptive
as a much closer encounter, but can humanity truly handle knowing
it is not alone?
Decades of bad science fiction aliens will not be enough to cushion
the shock. If anything, most SF films and novels probably have it
very wrong.
Governments both political and religious certainly won't be thrilled
to find out that they are not the most powerful organizations in
the Cosmos any more.
