In the 40's, geostationnary satellites were huge wheels with hundreds of operators and SF stories had losts of room for humans in space.
We know today, and accept fully that only unmanned satellites occupy that orbit.
And we would correctly assume today, that in 50 years, humans will living on other worlds?
Our evolution is indeed much more cultural than biological and this is why we let things done by machines, for our own benefit.
On other worlds, our eyes and hands can be replaced by tools that can see a lot more and grab smaller objects, while the brain (us) is elsewhere.
By the time it will be feasable to send complex rockets to other star systems, our cultural evolution will have taken us so far from the current technology, we wouldn't be able to recognize what would represent us, or we might even not agree with what we will have become.
