I have submitted in the past that "independent" candidates are going to change a lot of elections in the future. Heck, if it wasn't for independent candidates, three of the last four elections might have turned out differently.

As for Al Gore being "outside" of politics, if he is, it's a very recent development. The man didn't just pop out of the ocean on a seashell a couple of years ago.
