If I'm right that the possibility truly exists that they suspected the attack was coming and let the police and intelligence work that might have stopped it die an unholy death, a re-opening of the investigation might just uncover more of that evidence.

I'm sorry Lindy but to believe anything past that such as missiles hitting the Pentagon and that crap is downright loony. I can't mince words on that one. Creating such a grand illusion would've taken the cooperation of thousands of men, required people who got on those planes that day to simply disappear from the face of the Earth, for all those cell phone calls to be faked precisely at the same time, and for all involved to have no conscience or be such utter wackos that not one perpetrator has come forward since. Human behavior does not allow for that. Someone would've bragged to their buddies by now. Someone would've gotten pissed off at someone else and leaked info to damage another. It ALWAYS happens Lindy. The only part of the "conspiracy" I might buy that is a bit out there is the possible intentional destruction of building 7 of the WTC but not for some sinister plot for world domination but instead for pure financial greed of the property owner that viewed a larger settlement with complete destruction than dealing with a burned out hulk. That's even still quite a leap for me. Once again the number of people involved in setting explosives would've been too risky with the whole world watching the area. More than likely these buildings were designed to deal with normal catastrophies such as minor fires, shock, wind, etc. and this event simply greatly exceeded their design.

Now before some other winger jumps my crap for saying I think that the Bush administration allowed the attack to come, I understand there is absolutely no hard evidence to support that. It is a hunch entirely based on the circumstantial evidence of their actions since the attack and this burning desire in them to find justification to send troops into parts of the Middle East that had nothing to do with 9/11. It is also based on sworn testimony of FBI agents that had major evidence they tried to run up the chain of command with the observance of the hijackers taking flight training. It also involves the testimony of folks within the administration that said their attempts to elevate OBL's threat in our security planning were thwarted completely. It is based on solid written goals of PNAC of which many in the Bush administration were members. Human behavior in this case fits to a tee. There are whistleblowers. Hard evidence was ignored or lost. The infighting among the possible perpetrators is damning.
