I have paid for a source about a dozen times. Nothing ridiculous--30 bucks is about as high as I'd go for something like this. Usually it's because some science paper or government document has generated a controversy in the media. It bothers me to take other people's word for what's in a document. I've seen way too many people play fast and loose with them.
In this particular case I heard about it first on the Rush Limbaugh show, and no way was I taking his word on it. Whatever other talents he might have, a solid grounding in science ain't one of them, and everything he's ever said on science issues I've checked out independently. Same for most mainstream news sources, come to think of it.
