re: Turn it around...

This is not about the scientific debate over global warming or the ozone hole. This is about a viewpoint monotonously brought up here almost on a daily base, whether it be about the war, the press, environmental issues, tax policy, culture, civil rights, you name it. Conservatives are convinced that there is a concerted effort among certain scientists, journalists, academics, artists, intellectuals, and other "liberals" to discredit the business community and its political supporters in order to exert economic and political power on them. Or to put it more bluntly, steal their stuff.

Well, some of us don't believe it. In fact, I personally feel it is the business community and its partisans who have both the incentive and the resources to keep this issue at the forefront to justify their own policies and activities--and interests. So when it is brought up out of the blue, by repeatedely initiating post after post on the topic, we sometimes feel compelled to respond. You will note this argument isn't about atmospheric chemistry, because none of us here is qualified to conduct that debate. It's all about ideology, and I felt the need to point that out and remind the participants. The thirty dollar article was not meant to inform, or even to persuade, it was meant to beat us over the head with. It was all about the "gotcha", the "Aha!" moment, the "Take that, varlet" maneuver. Personally, I don't think TB got his money's worth.
