Once again, those lefty scientists have been proved wrong and unrestricted CFC production can resume immediately. Well, your delight may be premature; if the effects of CFCs on the ozone are indeed catalytic, as has been suspected from the very beginning, there may be a long time lag between the introduction of these gases in the lower atmosphere and the ozone-destroying reactions they initiate, and there will be a long time after they have totally dissipated at the surface before the ozone recovers at altitude.
However, let's assume for a moment you are right; and CFCs have nothing to do with the ozone hole, and the lefty scientists are humiliated and discredited and the CFC industry triumphantly vindicated. Before you celebrate too hard, you might want to consider what that means. It means the ozone threat is getting worse, we have no way of knowing when or if it will abate, we have no knowledge of what's causing it, and our most likely solution to solve the problem has been proven futile. And what's worse, any future solutions to the problem will have to overcome even more skepticism from industry and its supporters. Faith, after all, is a force not entirely restricted to mistaken lefty atmospheric chemists.
Science is science, and if CFCs are indeed not the problem, or even if we suspect they might not be, then we need to find out immediately what is. But let's save the celebrations and the jeering and the I-told-you-sos for the day the hole starts to shrink.
