I thought it was temperature related

It gets cold at the poles. That's why the ozone hole appears there. Molecules that neutralize CFCs near the equator condense/freeze/precipitate out of the atmosphere at the poles, leaving CFCs to wreak havoc with the ozone layer. Isn't that the foregoing theory?

I've also heard somewhere that the magnetic poles are the reason. Ions follow the earth's magnetic field lines and strike the atmosphere at the poles, causing the aurora borealis, and destroying the ozone layer.

I've also heard that the reduced levels of sunlight allow molecules that are normally photoreactive and break down in sunlight, to exist longer and break down ozone instead.

The only thing that concerns me is that when I was a kid suntan lotion was at SPF 5, and now it's being sold with SPF 45. Does that mean something? Are the UV rays worse because of the ozone hole, or is there more medical evidence encouraging better sunblock? <shrug>

I should also point out that global cooling will be alot more destructive than global warming. Seriously, global warming causes sea levels to rise and hurricanes to get stronger. Big deal... global cooling causes photosynthesis to stop. That's worse IMO.
