re: Are you sure that nuclear power
is the best solution to the energy problems?
I found some interesting news from this site:
http://ipsnews.net/news.asp?idnews=34121
"For many years now, French authorities have defended nuclear power arguing that it is clean energy, good for the environment, and that it will help combat global warming, for it does not emit greenhouse gases," Stephane Lhomme, coordinator of the environmental network Sortir du Nucléaire (Phase Out Nuclear Power) told IPS.
"Now, with global warming leading to extreme hot summers, we are witnessing that it is the other way round," Lhomme said. "Global warming is showing the limits of nuclear power plants, and nuclear power is destroying our environment."
Could it be that the nuclear power and global warming are synonymous.
In Spain, the nuclear power plant at Santa Maria de Garoña, one of eight Spanish reactors, was shut down last weekend due to the high temperatures recorded in the river Ebro, into which the reactor drains the water used in its cooling system.
Perhaps pissing in the river does have a thermal effect on the water.
What about the energy released from the radioactivity, where does it all go, only a small portion of it is converted into electricity?
Why is the nuclear fuel more radioactive when it is taken out of the reactor that it was when it went in?
How many nuclear power plants are there in the area that is experiencing drought in the US right now?
Which is more important, abundant electrical power for the masses or life on the planet?
It seems that we can have one or the other but not both at the same time, unless we use renewable resources and conservation, coupled with understanding the global energy balance phenomenon.
Perhaps if the availability and use of contraceptives would be more common around the world, the energy needs could be stabilized.
