Whether you believe me or not is irrelevant, when I was typing it, it was very late at night and I was very tired, besides being distracted by the old cat and the new dog that were fighting. :-)
I have no idea why that number appeared in my calculator.
I did the calculation again today and the result I got was different, first in the MW amount, it was off by 5742 MW.
I suspect that by adding the military and experimental nuclear reactors and the increase in nuclear power generation since 2001, the MW quantity is much more than the previous number.
So this time I came up with a number 5,579,160 GL per year for cooling water, not nearly as much as the previous number but still a respectable amount.
If that quantity of water is heated by 36F and allowed to warm the surroundings, then there is that much extra thermal energy in the system.
Obviously that extra energy must disappear from the system somehow, preferably as fast as it is generated.
As I understand it, you are saying that the heat is converted to infrared radiation and that energy is radiated into space.
Where can I get evidence that such an event is taking place at the same pace as the generation of the heat?
