The process of repression and explosive revelation seems correct (based on a general understanding of human nature...;-) ).
But I'm not sure that such definite categories ("you are either gay or you are not") really match the spectrum of human sexuality. It's true that for men sex often leads to affection, but it's not impossible for it to work the other way. The perception of rigid categories may have more to do with social pressure that forces people to pick a category and stick with it; and if they're "outed", to go completely the other direction to be completely within another category. In other words, social categories may shoehorn what's really a continuous spectrum into a small number of formal designations.
In the nature-versus-nurture debate, saying that the categories are fixed means that you're coming down strongly on the nature side--people are born the way they are, and they're going to stay that way. But maybe "nurture", which in this case isn't about what the parents do but about life experience, is capable of altering a person's sexuality. It could be based on opportunity, or another kind of peer pressure, "try it, you'll like it". Or it could be an evolution over time. So many factors are involved, I think, that experience ("nurture") can't be ruled out.
