Something To Consider

Tony and all. Here is something to consider.

First – In my opinion Mitt Romney is the best qualified of all the Republicans and most likely to be nominated. He is a very good businessman, his results in the Salt Lake City Olympics confirmed that, he seems to have done a good job as a state governor; he is a family man, smart, good looking and presents himself well. What’s not to like.

Next - Consider who his likely Democratic opposition is; a black man or a woman. Either would be a disaster for him. This is why.

The biggest negative for Romney would suddenly become his religion. It’s not now because of a gentleman’s agreement between the candidates and only breached once by Huckabee in his remark about Romney’s church believing in Christ being the brother of the devil. He said he apologized for even bringing the subject up. In fact that’s exactly what the LDS religion believes so it was a way for Huckabee to appear magnanimous and at the same time bring the subject to the mind of the voters. I think Huckabee has a doctorate in religion so of course he knew that.

I can hardly wait until Huckabee and Romney are questioned on evolution. Huckabee thinks the earth is some 10,000 years old and Romney will have to say something like “evolution is a fact but man was not part of the evolution story – he came down directly on a as-you-see it deal”. The American electorate is so foolish that he might actually get by on this one but how would you teach that in biology?

If Romney makes it to the general election the bother of Christ story will come up again but that will just be the start of it. His position changes on the right to life can then be seen as falling in line with the LDS church commands. His views on the place of woman will come into question if Hillary is his opponent because of the adamant stance of the LDS religion against woman in positions of power. His church was a major foe of the equal rights amendment and commanded the faithful to vote against it (which they did). A woman’s place (barefoot and pregnant) is well taught in the church.

If Romney and Oboma square off then he will have to contend with his church’s 150 year teaching that black skin is a punishment from the lord and a little push by Oboma will show that the Republicans fear of illegal immigration is, at base, simple racism.

And if those were not enough to trip him the rest of the church skeletons would be paraded out for all to see and they are considerable (men living on the moon, the sun lighted by the beam of another star, that star the home of God, God dad and God mom having sex, gold plates, seer stones, polygamy, etc, etc.).

The sad part is that I am sure that Romney doesn’t believe a bit of it. How could he – he is an intelligent worldly person that has to live with these 12th century beliefs and otherwise would make a great president.
