re: Not the first, possibly not the worst

Yes, I've worked in a cubicle farm, although not for many years, thank God. Of course, this was before I worked mostly with computers, but I know what it is to have your work on constant inspection, and your job at the whim of sometimes less-than-rational bosses.

The example you gave--a link would have helped--is voluntary. I said I certainly wouldn't sign up for it, but if someone wanted to, who am I to tell them they can't? Given your post, it seems obvious the employers are making no secret of what the required software does.

As for "surveillance societies:" Around the world I see governments putting cameras on their streets and invading the privacy of their citizens in varoius ways. Oddly, this is usually coming from the same governments whose primary announced goals are "caring for their citizens." Some people over there seem to think this kind of thing is a small price to pay for safety and cradle-to-grave benefits.

Get back to me when the law requires all computers to have these Big Brother devices in it. You know--kind of like remote thermostat controls.

An aside--completely unrelated of course--how do you feel about the government being the central repository of all of our medical records?
