There are lots of free photosharing sites, so if Tom was paying, he was probably paying for an upgrade, e.g. more storage. Nobody's forced to pay for photo hosting.

I know that the Zone's photo sharing facilities are so crude as to be almost unusable. But just you wait for upgrade!

I was just now thinking about this some more, and I think we're focusing on the wrong need. People want a way to communicate visually as well as in words, and creating an image offline and uploading it is only one way to do it. The ideal thing would be some kind of widget or applet that you can pop up from the message editor, sketch your visual, then save it as part of the post.

I poked around, and so far all I've found are "sketch" widgets (e.g. InputDraw), which just let you draw lines. Amusing, but Zoners would tired of playing Etch-a-Sketch real quick. If you come across some kind of widget or applet that would provide useful drawing tools--text, lines, shapes (boxes, circles), patterns and fill--please let me know. Otherwise I might have to write it myself, and you know how much I'd hate having to do something so cool.

Later: How you phrase the question to Google makes a diff. Searching for "drawing applet" turned up better stuf. JPainter aDraw See anything that floats your boat?
