It was the "Office of Special Plans," and there were plenty of lines directly from the sources on the left to the Congressional and Senate intelligence committees.
The Senate Committee that first investigated this found no evidence of political pressure. Of course, we were told that this was all lies. We were told that "Phase II" would answer all the questions, and that the only thing stopping it was the obstruction of the Republican Congress.
Democrats have been running the intelligence committees for a year now. The only additional report (released last May) has been one on pre-war assessment of the conditions in post-war Iraq. We're all still waiting for the report on political public statements and the assessment on the OSP. Don't know what the holdup is. You'd think they'd be pushing it out there ASAP.
The hard fact is that any Democrats who were leery about the information they were getting buried their doubts to get on the public pro-war bandwagon, hence the anti-Saddam speeches when the wind was blowing that way. When the wind changed, so did they. Standard operating procedure. Maybe they (with some exceptions like Kucinich) don't want this dragged up any more than anyone else does.
