We are not reliant on status quo. That is a very fallacious statement. Human kind hasn't experienced a status quo in quite some time. The movement of humans from caves to farms, then farms to factories, now from factories to offices providing services, back to homes (providing virtual services), has reflected humans capacity for change, and it has gotten steadily more rapid. If we couldn't adapt there is no way we would be feeding the current billions. They would have starved off long ago, if Malthusias concepts were the whole story.
With continuous improvement in automation, and efficiency of use of materials, conceptually humans could do quite nicely with the relatively mild changes due to global warming. As just one for instance, how much fresh water will be supplied by solar and wind powered desalinization in 100 years? I really think the anti-tech crowd underestimates human beings capacity to adapt and react to change.
Does anyone every consider that if there was the social will poverty could be wiped out in a generation (don't allow those that don't have resources to have children). (Yes, horrible and sinister implications of the power of the state over reproduction, but nonetheless potentially effective in controlling human population growth).

- Okay, are you sure you put the right link?
- I will go over the points in detail later today, but let me just say this now
- sea ice extent currently is BELOW the recent mean
- Ocean temperature update
- Arrrrgh, not sure how it became IIPC it should read IPCC (n/t)
