I belonged to a board for years that began as a writers' group that broke off from Francis Ford Coppola's Zoetrope site. We left for the sake of free speech. When the break-off board folded (the owner/moderator had to get off-line for a long time and didn't pay the bill), we all created another site and another one until it finally became a very active, huge writer's site that became toxic in nature. The bullies are there waiting to pounce. I made sure I could never get back into that site by sabotaging my own password/log-in. That was 3 years ago. So I know toxic.
This place can get that way a little but I just don't read the assholes. I read the people I like and respect whose opinions I value. I don't really understand why other people can't/don't do that.
Of course, I've never been personally attacked here. OTOH, I tend to have a viciously cutting tongue laced with black humor when provoked (unless I'm too tired to care at the moment).
I think of this play as "play." It exercises my brain. And my wit. What's left of them. (I AM a leftie!)
