...you guys run your tank till you run out of gas?
The only way you could tell if you are getting better gas mileage within fractions of a mpg is to run the tank until empty.
That seems a bit impractical.
And if you don't empty or measure precisely your tank of the remaining contents to start fresh when you fill up again...the guesstimation becomes even more inaccurate.
It seems the best one could do without emptying/measuring the remaining contents is a ballpark figure of mpg.
And furthermore, each different pump dispenses inaccurate amounts and differing quantities of of gasoline as it pumps. The bureau of weights and measures certifies those things once every several years...and almost none of them dispense exactly the same quantity of gasoline like they are supposed to. After certification the pumps can be tweaked by the owners to put out whatever quantity they desire. .8 gallon per gallon, .6, .9 whatever level they feel comfortable in scamming their customers and they feel they can get away with.
This means one would have to filter the pump nozzle with one's own measuring instrument.
So while all these things may increase gas mileage, you will be hard pressed to know whether the difference is worth it or whether it is more important to find a half-ways honest gas pump.
