I was going to give away free power in a post on the HZ?
No, the "engineering" in this fictional story points in the general right direction. But if you are an engineer looking at this story for specifics you'll be vastly disappointed and have little more than an inoperative transformer/dynamo. It was sufficiently specific enough for the tale to seem more believable/enjoyable - which was the goal.
The gigawatt reference was a literary tribute to "Back to the future" and 1.21 gigawatts of power. I rounded down to make it a little less obvious.
No, rest assured, the proprietary technique for tapping large quantities of planetary emf power and converting it to electricity will never be divulged on a public board.
