Hey, don't get me wrong, I loved Star Wars, especially the first one, but I'm amazed at the detailed iconography and "the canon" that has been worked out for this and similar tales, like Star Trek and the Alien or Predator series.
It would be unfair to dismiss these people with a simple "Get a life!", because, they are, as a rule, perfectly well balanced and healthy individuals once you get them out of their fantasy worlds. Besides, their perversions are harmless to others and obviously rewarding for them. No harm done, and whatever turns you on.
I guess it's like Potterheads, Ringlings, Goths, Civil War reenactors, Western History buffs, or people who are heavy into Renaissance fairs. It's a nostalgia for something they've never experienced, or that never even existed. There is an interesting sociological phenomenon here, one that seems to be associated with people of above average intelligence, education and income. I wonder if anyone has studied it formally.

Someone has really worked all this out very carefully, haven't they?
