Gov Crist has flip-flopped quite a bit since he has been on the short list for VP. He used to be considered quite liberal for a Florida Republican, including on offshore drilling. Even I liked him. This plus the usual elephant's memory for apostates, may work against him with McCain's base, even if it does bring in Florida voters.
Now comes the silly season, as both candidates start making strategic concessions and back-pedaling on previous positions and promises.
