re: Re-usable Launch Vehicles: a wrong "good idea" ?
Additionally.
The value of RLV depends upon how often it can be re-used.
A jetliner is nearly worthless if it was only capable of being used once per year.
So, disregarding the Shuttle's cost of repair each flight and the high storage cost. If the Shuttle was stored cheaply and had no repairs needed, the flight rate of 2 per year [if it gets that] makes it expensive.
The airline industry would get rid of a new and functioning air plane if it only had 100 uses per year.
Perhaps, instead RLV launch vehicles, NASA should think of reusable launch towers- that's pretty easy to do.
And think 10 or more uses per year when you use the word reusable.
