What gives the UFO people credibility is

that almost the entire scientific community agrees that there is a strong possibility of life elsewhere in the universe. Very public and vocal proponents of that theory such as Carl Sagan were on tv saying such stuff.

Most people have attention spans of about one statement so that's all they heard. They missed what came next, that even if there was life elsewhere, the possibility that it was somewhere close enough that even the most advanced civilization and technology would be daunted to traverse the distances in any reasonable time span. The distances are huge, incomprehensible by most people.

Even though theoretical physics says that warping space is a possibility, it's really the stuff of science fiction. Accomplishing the warp is the tiny first step. Living through the journey is probably impossible for any entity.

That leaves the only possibility being that creatures are from our own solar system area and space probes are showing that if we're lucky we might discover some microbial organism at best miles below a sea of ice.

I think there's other life in the universe. I'm betting we'll never meet it.
