Marsby's right, TB. The only professional arm-twisting in the GW/CC arena to stick to a party line came from the Bush administration in order to keep it's own scientists consistent with their political positions on Kyoto and IPCC, and to justify their own policies on business-friendly regulatory practices. And that's one simple point you've never even acknowledged.
Forgetting for a moment the scientific issues in this debate, if motivation and ideology is what's troubling you, ask yourself what is easier to believe for the proverbial neutral and unbiased observer.
Has the scientific community somehow been coerced, persuaded, or misled into supporting a policy that promotes socialist control of the economy for some sinister purpose?
Or have industries which will suffer financially from those regulatory policies mobilize their own resources and their traditional allies in government to do everything in the public arena possible to discredit or obstruct those policies and to sway and confuse the public?
Perhaps you find the former scenario probable, and the latter unthinkable. I find the latter inevitable, and the former, ridiculous.
