While perhaps a more advanced species than we may find a way to go
FTL (Faster Than Light) in this Universe, I agree that I have yet to see
any FTL concepts that are not at the edges of speculation or just
outright science fiction.
So assuming that 186,282 miles per second is the Universal Speed Limit,
and we are still in a stage where even doing a decent fraction of that
velocity has many technological hurdles to overcome, then anyone who
does come to visit is not just popping in and out for a visit and chat.
If they come in a big spaceship with a whole lot of family members, it
will be safe to assume that they plan to stay past dinner. We may be
doing this ourselves some day when we find Earthlike planets in the
galaxy.
If there is a Galactic Empire, it is a slow one with not too many members,
or at least not too many diverse members.
