I just wanted to throw out the possibility that ETI might have a sense
of humor and purposely do something that would make "rational" humans
think it too absurd to be the reason and thus ascribe any possible
evidence for their existence to something much more mundane.
This may not be the case at all and we may find that any ETI advanced
enough to come here may have "evolved" beyond humor or never had
it to begin with and thus they would never do anything just to amuse
themselves while distracting us.
But it seems at least on this planet, any creatures with minds that have
more than rudimentary skills also seem to be aware enough to find
amusement in certain events, objects, and actions. Certainly dolphins
and monkeys do some things just for sheer amusement.
Humor may be the ultimate coping skill for dealing with the random
absurdities of the Universe.
