If it weren't so late, I'd engage in a full discussion but it is so I won't. I find your perspective interesting and not without merit. However, this is Schoolhouse Earth, a place for beings not as highly evolved to learn and to grow. They grow by experiencing.
The worlds where individual freedoms are highly prized and individual responsibility is paramount are wonderful places but not for those not evolved enough to live there. Too many of those on this planet are still attached to violence and individual responsibility is all too rare. So, on the one hand we have the conservative ideal but on the other hand we have the masses who require a bit more parenting while they hopefully evolve. You said, "From a spiritual standpoint starvation and poverty are far better than enforced equality." That's all very well, unless you are the one who is starving and living in abject poverty.
Compassion is something that the more evolved experience and there is ample opportunity on Schoolhouse Earth to learn that and to become less self-involved. The true ideal is when each person values the good of the whole over his or her own well-being. We have a long way to go before that comes true.
Agape is what we are learning, a love that is total, yet removed from the personal. There is an aspect of detachment to it.
Schoolhouse Earth is drawing to a close and soon it will be time for those have grown sufficiently to go on to other worlds to continue their spiritual growth. Those who have not evolved sufficiently will be left behind in circumstances that will force their growth for survival or will end with the destruction of the individual entities.
There are many here who have come from other places, other planets, even other times to assist, to observe. participate and experience. All of those here chose this denseness of being as being part of their path. Not many remember their past lives, other worlds but some of us do.
This world is seeking homeostasis; the shift will be violent and painful. A great many will not survive it.
