God! you have me totally pegged. I was doing reefers and dropping acid when the visions hit. I was listening to the Moodies, Peter Paul & MAry and I'd play the Carpenters records backwards at 78 to hear messages from beyond. Those spinning lp's spawned the whole vortex thing.
My friends all pretended they couldn't hear the screaming aliens from planet Claire on John Denver's "Rocky Mountain High" when you played it at full volume alongside old Janis Joplin records. I knew it was too overwhelming and most of them had parents who were total squares. They didn't want to upset them. My fraternity soon got wind of it, thanks to her spreading the word at a love-in and I was unceremoniously dumped. But I was happy, nevertheless, and I was smiling.
I would meet them at weird places over the years and they would smile but make excuses to walk away quickly. They had complemented me on the tin-foil cap I had started wearing at that point though. Well except for Rebecca, Jon's wife. I gave her one hell of a smile - and a quick pinch of her posterior - to ward off evil aliens naturally - she screamed and dragged Jon away before I could even get a word in edgewise. The aliens clearly had her mind at that point though.
Thanks for bringing back all those memories. That Craig guy sounds like a cool guy.
I wonder if he winks when he smiles....
