Re: "Are jobs obsolete?"

I imagine Tom originally posted the Rushkoff essay in some forlorn hope that all the lefties here would read it and suddenly recoil in shame and horror, wailing,

Oh, how could have we been so mistaken, so foolish? See how our childish ideas, when fully developed, lead to contradictions and absurdities, boo hoo. We have been shown to be the naive simpletons that we are! We have been crushed by the overwhelming clarity and force of his logic.

The result, as is always the case when TB pulls one of his AHA! moments, is that what he finds so inconceivable is actually not a bad idea, and worthy of consideration and further development, or at least, can be mined for some insight.

It is not surprising that TB's prejudices and opinions may differ from those of anyone else, that is simply the variety of human experience. What is surprising is how he simply cannot comprehend that; how anyone could possibly have a thought different from his. Other people are not just mistaken, they are impossible.
