I believe the entire point of this discussion was that we left regulatory "middle ground" behind years ago. Or maybe you still think I should be a criminal for selling an incandescent light bulb?
As long as the premise is that businesses will be eternally corrupted by the lust for money, and that governments will never be corrupted by the lust for power, this discussion can go nowhere. The answer under that premise will always be more power to the government.
Of course, if the premise is wrong, as history repeatedly demonstrates, maybe you need to decide which causes the most damage if taken too far. Want to tally the historial deaths from bad products in the old days up against the historical deaths from bad governments?
Incidentally, leftist environmental lunatics are the main reason irradiation isn't used more widely, not regulatory issues.
