The fix...
Is NOT turning over the entire system to what is arguably the most incompetent and ignorant group of people in this nation.
There are answers, most of them involving reintroducing market forces and wider competition into the system, while addressing specifically targeted and narrow areas of need in other ways. Nobody in the current government wants to hear them because those answers won't deliver them the huge levels of power and loot that a universal mandatory government-controlled system would.
As for the "train wreck" of the current system - try and remember who it is that's selling you this idea.
