One major thing that has changed in the past 40 years is a government that is four times the size it was back then, in constant dollars, and a tax burden on the middle class that is twice what it was back then (including payroll, state and local taxes). About 20 percent of income in 1966, and about 40 percent now. There's a reason it's not that easy to support a family on one income.

It's liberals that have attacked the private sector on countless fronts, driven heavy industry out of the country in a dozen different ways, and supervised an education system requiring us to import brains. That's just a short list off the top of my head.

Leftism is economic poison, killing every nation that has applied it consistently enough. As I write this, Venezuela, only the most recent of many examples, is collapsing. If the Democrats keep doing what they're doing in Congress right now, so will we.

You might want to rethink your theories.
