Alternative and reasonable ideas for health care were put forth during the debate. The Democrats didn't want to hear them, and the newspapers didn't want to print them.
As long as the politicians follow the leftist paradigm that profit in medical care is the real problem, things will get worse.
Unfortunately the next step will not be a realistic solution to bring market forces back into the system. The next step will be rigid wage and price controls on the pharmaceutical industry, medical industry, and practitioners. These will respond by mostly folding up, which is what many doctors are doing already.
The following disaster will be blamed on capitalism.
