The point, and there WAS one, is that the disaster was hyped beyond all reason.
I listed some environmental recovery data a while back from various oil disasters. The key seems to be climate, with warm climates recovering very rapidly, while colder climates (Alaska for example) can take years. The decades-long destruction of the Gulf we were hearing about was crap.
