^The spill has not been totally plugged, the bulk of the oil is still offshore, the dispersed hydrocarbons are causing unknown mischief deep below the surface, damage to coastal communities human and natural, will continue for decades, and they will not recover fully in a lifetime.^
Wrong. The spill has stopped, and all that remains is to stop it more permanently. The bulk of the oil has already been assimilated back into basic components. The term "unknown mischief" makes my point for me - the retreat into unknowable consequences, free of all measurement or analysis. The Gulf Coast will be normal in five years. Or less.
As for the rest, if you want to talk about issues like overfishing, pollution of the Mississippi, destruction of the natural swamps and marshes that clean the waters of that area, leaking ships, or too many people living in flood zones, start a new thread.
