Re: Re: Re: House Democrats flee Washington

So, the top 2% and corporate America is sitting on their money because consumers are still cautious about buying their goods. What about the service industry? Companies who perform services are down too and consumers are not deciding to not have their assets serviced because of a lack of confidence.

If your above assessment is true, then what is going to give consumers enough confidence to buy goods? How in the world would raising the taxes on the top 2% and corporate America give confidence to consumers? And what advantage would the top 2% and corporate America have by just sitting on their money with no tax raises? They would still have to pay taxes and have no alternative but to pay taxes on the money sitting in the bank without any offsets and deductions.

What is going to give consumers confidence to start buying again is knowing that their jobs are safe, they are not likely to be laid off and there is a chance for advancement. In order for that to happen the top 2% and corporate America needs to know what the government is going to do about taxes so they can make long term plans with their money. The top 2% doesn't just sit on their money, they want to further advance themselves and that means investing it and they are the ones who need the confidence to start doing it again.
