Yeah, you go find that link. It shouldn't be hard. If some Republican of any status whatsoever had actually said that, using the words "serving class," it would already have a hundred thousand hits on Google. Your friend is full of shit.
There are currently 139.5 million civilian employed in this country. It isn't enough, because the employable population is larger, so the unemployment rate is currently high.
But think about this. In 1964, there were only half that many people employed in this country (the population was lower, too, so unemployment rates were comparable or lower). Since then, the number of jobs essentially doubled. Only one in five of those were government jobs.
Think about that. Where did those jobs come from?
We are where we are today because a lot of people started businesses with the intent of making a lot of money. Some made a hell of a lot more than others, but all of them improved our lives and created a huge load of new wealth across the board. My link obviously didn't sink in.
To simplify it somewhat: those suffering "workers" you keep talking about? Half of their jobs didn't even exist when I was a kid. And it was those goddam millionaires that created them.
Anyway, what do you propose to DO about this horrible unfairness, where some people have so much more of the wealth pie than others? You keep yelling that you're NOT a socialist or a communist, you AREN'T about forced wealth redistribution, or any of those things. What the heck ARE you then? Carry the thought process to its obvious conclusions, already.
At some point enough people in this country are going to be stupid enough to finally murder capitalism and make large accumulations of wealth - outside of the government, of course - a crime. When the results turn out to be the same as everywhere else this has been tried, they'll be too stupid to know why.
