“Another way to combat crime is to put cameras in most public areas, and it does seem to work.” - This way of thinking IMO is very scary and disturbing.
If you guy’s in Europe choose to give up your guns for cameras watching your every move then go for it, having the government watching and documenting all your actions doesn’t seem like a free society to me it sounds like just another step in the on going quest of power hungry governments to erode individuals of their personal freedoms.
One of the unfortunate side effects to freedom is crime, and accidents. I personally don’t think you can have one without the other. If someone wants to kill it can be done in many different ways and one doesn’t need a gun to inflict deadly bodily harm. If a child is harmed by an irresponsible gun owners weapon then the owner should face the consequences like a drunk driver that kills a family with his car would be.
Me, my siblings, my twelve cousins and the majority of my friends where all raised around guns and not ONE accident. You know why? Because we were taught how to handle a gun properly and about how dangerous a gun could be if handled improperly. Don’t lump the majority of us safe educated gun owners in with the small minority of irresponsible uneducated gun owners. You can’t legislate laws to protect people from themselves no matter how hard you may try.
The problem is that the liberal element of most societies most of whom have absolutely no experience with weapons and probably have never even touched a gun are on a political crusade to ban guns and to tell us responsible gun owners what kind of gun we can and cannot have. What they fail to understand is that short sighted quick remedies only hurt the law abiding citizens and not the criminal element. Taking guns away from those of us that follow the law of the land and use them for hunting and protection will only enable criminals to take more advantage of us than they already do because they will keep their guns regardless of what the law says.
If I’m not mistaken our founding fathers left Europe because of the restraint’s that their governments placed on them. I hope European politics’ stays in Europe they’re not welcome here. I’ve been to Europe, went to visit the my ancestors homeland the Netherlands, and Germany. I loved the visit it was wonderful but I would never live there by choice. Thanks but no thanks, I’ll stick with the US.
