Far more enlightened answer than I anticipated.
There's a heckuva problem for blue-collar workers. I know lots and lots of people who may or may not have received a high school diploma who are bright folks, good workers and interested in everything everyone else is. Just didn't have whatever it takes to sit still and learn from a book. My closest friend who fits that paints cars in a body shop. A very skilled, hard-working guy.
And those jobs are disappearing. I had hopes for a while that owning stock would replace the mom-and-pop stores which used to dot the landscape. And, folks need a "stake" in order to do that, and a bit more discipline than many may have.
Don't know the answer. I hope someone figures it out.
