"Palestinian" is an artificial political label first created post 1948, and especially post 1967, to designate the Arabs (and apparently only them) living in a region of the Middle East referred to since ancient times, without any reference to the real ethnicity or religion or culture of the inhabitants, as "Palestine".
In fact, most Arabs living in the region at the turn of the 20th century considered themselves to be Syrians, or of another Arab identity.
The creation of Israel as a Jewish homeland and sanctuary on a tiny piece of the Middle East was sanctioned by both the League of Nations and the UN, but unfortunately even a tiny piece of the Middle east was too much for the Arabs to allow the Jews to posess. Despite the Jews' generous offer to share the land of the region (not the nation mind you) of Palestine, the Arabs refused and launched a savage, 50 year war of aggression against Israel.
Israel won the West Bank and Gaza in a purely defensive war, struggling to survive against the savage aggression of a vastly larger, more numerous foe. Israel will decide if and when they will give it back, and then only within the framework of a comprehensive peace settlement (which the Arab side refused in 2000). If the Arabs want the land back any sooner, tough sh#t, they should have thought twice before trying to wipe out Israel.

Completely wrong. Palestine was never a nation.
