Precisely.
Hypothetically speaking, if I had agents working undercover for me in Iraq, working in those "nonexistent" WMD programs and they provide me with data, I certainly would not jeopardize their lives by revealing data privy only to them with Hans Blix!
These folks couldn't find their own behind to clean it without a road map.
How seriously do you think these folks take this inspection stuff when they go around sans protective suits? Do you think they want to find chemical weapons while unprotected? They are all about putting on a performance and collecting their salaries.
They are a useless UN mechanism designed to funnel money into the bank accounts of Hans Blix and his ilk.
Look at Scott Ritter. Former UN inspector. Here is a guy, an Iraqi bribed "alleged" pervert, who thinks he is the voice to tell the US about morality.
How many skeletons do you think mayt be in Blix's closet? Or other inspectors?
The UN doesn't want to upset the dictators of the world - too many are in power. HUGE amounts of money from Iraq is flowing into the UN accounts thanks to brokered programs and is earning interest daily.
They have a financial vested interest in seeing Saddam stay in power!
Expecting Blix and the UN to give Saddam a failing grade is like expecting a home inspector paid by the seller to report accurately the conditions of the house!
No, we will not share valued intelligence with Blix or the UN. They are just as likley to call Saddam up the night before and tell him to move his stuff.
Bush went to the UN as a favor to Colin Powell. Powell is p---ed off at the europeans who have proven that Bush's gut reaction was right - the UN is a worthless bunch of "wimpy, whiny, leftist snots." The sort that are very comfortable with the status quo. I've never seen Powell so forceful and angry. He has really been betrayed by his counterparts in europe. Bush, Rumsfeld & Cheney's views have been vindicated.
The UN should've learned - never betray someone who has bent over backwards, argued for hours on end and risked his reputation to give the UN credibility.
Germany absorbed so many lifelong, America-hating, east-German commies upon reunification, that a liberal, "green party sleazebag" like Schroeder could come into power. He is pandering to those former east germans with their Anti-American indoctrination. Naturally this puts a commie infested Germany who simply want to cash the government out and "get what they missed out on" and Socialist France in bed together - and makes France look like the conservative of the two governments! (Not people - but governments!)
Germany of 2003 is not the Germany of 1989. That is NOT a good thing.
That is why the US is forming strong relationships with these ex-communist states, that had it really rough, and wish to embrace the US. As the populations shift in France and Germany - we see they only begrudgingly supported the US when we were a nice deterrent to have around. Now that the red army of Russia is "democracized," europe feels free to mouth off at the US.
By 2025, look for strong economic and social ties with Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Czechoslovakia, Rumania, etc.
Yes, this post is all over the place - I know. It is necessary to see the big picture of this foreign affairs mess.
