Knowing your source I am now much more comfortable with the accuracy of my memory. There is nothing wrong with getting a patent on new technology. To imply there is is the purist bullshit there is. This is communist style thinking. A company is going to loose profits from an existing product, spends money to find a replacement, and is expected not to recoup the losses? Give me a break. The reason freon was used so widely is because it was so effective. It's a no brainer that a replacement was likely to be less efficient if commercial industry had not come up with a replacement on its own.
