Tom,
Mr. Bush claimed that Saddam had hundreds of tons of chemical and biological weapons. Secretary Rumsfeld said, "He has them, we know where they are." Neither of these claims, upon which the war was based, are true.
Now, we learn we conducted an unprecedented pre-emptive war on the basis of wishful thinking. Hundreds of American soldiers have died simply because Saddam had wet dreams about an arsenal he didn't possess.
Fact is, Kay's report affirms precisely what Kaplan claims it does, that this war was completely unnecessary - there was no threat to America and American citizens from Mr. Hussein. He was just a cheesey two-bit dictator laviciously spending his oil money on statues of himself rather than rebuilding his military infrastructure.
