There's that 2 week thing to catch people's attention. Like in a vacation resort, programs are organized expecting people to stay 2 weeks and not more. The news coverage can keep up with a story for about that long before the attention shrinks. That's why the Moon is great! Mars requires 6 months of boredom only 2 days after liftoff..And once they land on Mars, expect the public to want something else only a few days after they settle...and they're supposed to stay more than a year....
