Who said anything about refueling on the freaking moon, Mark?
I certainly never did. I want the resources to be delivered to LEO for use there, to go anywhere. I never disputed that you can refuel on Mars and fully support the idea for Mars missions. It makes way too much sense.
You can put the resources in LEO from the moon using different techniques. One that I already covered is the proposed steam rocket. Another could be mass drivers (maglev). Aerocapture into Earth orbit would be tricky but not nearly as tricky as a full aerocapture to Mars orbit, as Gary discussed. Once in LEO, the ice could be used either in other steam rockets or broken down into H2/O2.
