I am not a literalist. I think the OT is based on true events, do not take the Old Testament literally. I believe God created the Universe through the Big Bang, along with all the physical laws. I believe that God exist ‘outside’ out physical universe since he was here before he created it.
I think Heaven(or whatever you want to call it) is another place (Universe?) outside of our own. This place, Heaven, has its own physical laws separate from those in our universe. You see, here in our physical universe, we are govern by certain laws. We are made of atoms that follow these laws. We can only sense things that follow these laws. Say there were photons hitting our eyes that come from another universe following different physical laws, we would not see them. In short- I see no reason why something else, some other place, couldn’t exist outside of our physical universe (By outside, I our physical laws, although it may be physically as well).
What about the Christian part, you might ask. I believe Jesus was an extension of God. I think that the old covenant wasn’t working, so he had to do something. He came down as Jesus not only to connect with us, but to experience life as a human. It makes perfect sense to me, the way God has done things since human evolved from primates. Once we started forming societies, he gave us rules to follow. The God of the OT was tough, kind of like how a parent is with young children. Then, as we evolved further, he came down as Jesus and gave us new laws.
Jesus taught us to love others and share with them our wealth. If only people would follow his example.
I started off a Christian, but quiet young, the scientist in me had many unanswered questions. In college, I turned agnostic. After college, I started looking towards God Again, but I just couldn’t see how there could be life after death. Then I had an experience with the After-Life. I don’t blame anyone who doesn’t believe me – I certainly never believed such stories before. I was visited (Some might say haunted) by my dead grandmother for two weeks after she died (Until we buried her). I still have a hard time believing it, but I not only could feel her presence, but my wife and I saw her move objects. My son, who was two at the time, talked to her. Other things happened as well.
Needless to say, it blew away my scientific mind. It was then that I realized there had to be more to our existence than this physical universe we live in. I also realized that if one assumes God created our universe with all its physical laws, then he should be able to control it. All of the miracles in the Bible could have been performed by molecular control.
Anyway, the way I look at God and the Universe, I don’t see a conflict between God and Science.
Politically, I am mostly a conservative. There are some issues, like the environment, where I am liberal. I love trees, have planted many in my life, and I hate seeing them cut don’t. I don’t like hunting (Try growing up in Texas not liking to hunt).
I very conservative when it comes to the legal system. I lean toward protecting law abiding citizens and victims, more than the criminals. I think the government had the duty to protect our women and children from rapist, child molesters and murders, and they execute child molesters and rapist (Depending on case, of course).
Topics like abortion are tough for me. I personally feel it is wrong. Being adopted also makes it hard for me to support it. A new human is created the moment a unique strand of DNA is formed at conception. Yet, the scientist in me fears over-population of the planet. The only real solution is for people to be responsible, and when they are not, they should be responsible for their actions. But that is not likely to happen. So, end the end, all I can do is my own part, be responsible for my own self and hope others will do the same.
Most other things, I am a moderate on.
I am a Pacifist, deep down, but 9/11 has made me see that War in necessary to free the world of tyrants. I dream of a day when humans will come together as a race and began doing great things, like terraforming Mars and Venus. Imagine what we could do as a race if we took all of our resources we put towards war, and put them toward space exploration and settlement? Before for we can get there, the world must be a free place, where all walks of people are educated and enjoy life. We are a long way from that goal, but it is achievable.
