Well guess my beliefs still fall in the atheist category since I'm absolutely certain (based on my observation in life so far) that there is no God, creator or Santa Claus (although the presents under the tree when I was young had me really going for awhile). I'm just as certain (based on observation and research so far) that there was a big bang that started what we currently see as the universe. Now the very type of thinking that goes on in my head that points me to a disbelief in some God or creator also gives me real doubt that the Biggus Bangus was the beginning of all matter and energy in the infinite stretches of space. That's the part of the logic that always pulls me away from some absolute beginning to things as the theory of a creator implies. My mind naturally takes that next step and says "Well then where did the creator come from or what happened just before the big bang?" That puts me into this endless cycle of confusion which always leads me back to Occam's Razor which in this case translates to me that things (matter, energy, open space) are simply infinite and have no need for creation or a beginning.
It seems just as likely to me that there have been endless Big Bangs that either interact with one another to begin the cycle over again or we are simply seeing the expansion before the inevitable contraction of some unending cycle. Who the hell knows but it's comforting to me to not place limits on things as my human mind sometimes demands.
