The US citizens have the luck to have had ancestors who arrived in the New World, with the experience of the European renaissance, with the notion of property rights and with quite an immune system while the Natives were scattered, lacking the notion of owning something and with a much weaker immune system.
The big chance of the US is the room it has. Room to express creativity, room for social experiments, for freedom , room in a largely unspoiled country.
Counter example:
Over here, because the highway around Antwerp is all the time congested, it was decided to start with massive enlargement workd which of course cause even more traffic jams.
Here, to be creative much roo often, means replacing what already exists and this means infringing into individual rights and all their consequences.

And then, lately, the German Rocket scientists were invited in the US to help building the space program.
It is true the brightest minds in the world want to go to the US and it is in the US interest to welcome them.
